He received his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1965 from the University of Liverpool Medical School in England. The youngest in his medical school class, he began his medical career interning at Alderhey Children’s Hospital and Clatterbridge General Hospital. After his intern years, he spent his Royal Navy service in Orthopedics and Surgery at various locations around the world. Dr. MacDonald served as the surgeon on the aircraft carrier, HMS Hermes. Upon completion of his service in the Royal Navy, he moved to the United States.
Experienced in various specialties, Dr. MacDonald established his Family Practice in Alvin, Texas in 1971. His practice included obstetrics and general surgery. In the 1980's he served as Chief of Staff at Alvin Community Hospital. Dr. Mac, as his patients affectionately call him, is proud to have served generations of families in the Brazoria County area.
In addition to treating his patients, Dr. MacDonald volunteers on a medical mission team that travels to the villages of Guatemala every year to provide medical and surgical care to the poor. In his spare time, Dr. MacDonald enjoys traveling, gardening, cooking and spending time with his wife, Pam, his five children and four grandchildren.
